This is my first collab piece for Rugged Coast, a premier Santa Cruz lifestyle and apparel brand, and also my neighbors. I met this dynamic duo while we were volunteering together for Sea Walls Santa Cruz. Their brand was just starting out and they invited me to do a graphic.
I started making this image after the CZU fires that happened up here in our mountain community in 2020. The trident is a symbol of strength, show as a charred trunk up the middle with the scorched forest in the background, and the neon new growth shooting out with new life. Rugged Coast started their brand with the slogan "Live with Purpose", and one of their first acts of service was to help with the construction of a community tool shed in Boulder Creek after the fires. This became a central resource to people who had lost everything and were working to start over; to become that neon new growth.
